Band bio

Arcane Moon are an originals indie rock band from Essex, UK who came together in 2024.  Josh (Guitar / Vocals) and Matt (Drums) met through a prior band and started writing together in May 2023.  With quite different but complimentary musical backgrounds, the guys immediately formed a strong creative collaboration.  Influenced by bands like Radiohead, Chilli Peppers and The Police, Arcane Moon combines soulful melodies with a driving groove.  Joe (Bass) joined in January 2024 and Scott (Keyboards / Vocals) in March 2024.

Following a series of festival gigs in the summer of 2024, the guys released their debut single 'Three Little Words' in September 2024 and their debut EP 'Ellipsis' in November 2024.  Having gone back in the studio in May 2025, Arcane Moon released three singles over the summer of 2025 'Lumens', 'Utopian' and 'Sunday Gravy'.  Their first full album 'The Hour Glass' released on October 31st 2025.

On September 19th 2025, Arcane Moon won the 'New Band' category at the prestigious annual NMG Awards.

Josh mcDowall

Josh was given an acoustic guitar for his 18th birthday, taught himself to play and started writing songs in 2012. He doesn't read tab music (or tadpoles, as he calls it).  Josh's influences are John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and poets / folk song writers like Neil Young.  Josh is drawn to lyrics which leave the door open to interpretation.

Matt Hinton

Matt had a strict classical music upbringing and playing the drums was his way of rebelling against all the formality of music exams, orchestra and chamber music.  Stewart Copeland from The Police  inspired Matt to pick up a pair of sticks.  Matt credits Copeland with several elements of his playing: e.g. the use of Traditional grip in his left hand, using 3 three rack toms and enjoying intricate hi hat patterns.

Joe Holmes

Joe took inspiration from his family's musical background.  Joe's grandad was a professional jazz musician and his Dad also plays bass.  Joe was inspired by Bernard Edwards from Chic and Paul McCartney.  Joe enjoys classic British rock and more recently Australian psychedelic rock.

Scott Mitchell

Scott started playing keyboard and then the piano from the age of 12.  He was self taught and enjoyed playing thematic content from films and covers. Scott was inspired by the musical film scores of Hanz Zimmer and John Williams. Scott loves synth based music and is enjoying developing his own unique sounds.
